From her earliest memories, the fire of curiosity and the thirst for discovery have been at the heart of Dr. Maricelly Santiago’s journey. A native of Puerto Rico, she was first entranced by the world of science at the tender age of seven. This early fascination, nurtured through a school science fair, laid the foundation for a future replete with achievements, challenges, and unparalleled dedication to the betterment of human life through scientific exploration. Despite hailing from a middle-class background, Dr. Santiago’s dreams were anything but modest. Driven by an innate love for science and humanity, she achieved the milestone of becoming the first woman in her family to earn a doctoral degree in biomedical sciences and oncology.

The journey wasn’t without its share of obstacles, but Dr. Santiago, undeterred, embraced them as challenges waiting to be overcome. Supported by prestigious institutions such as the MBRS-RISE, National Cancer Institute, and NIH- NIGMS, Dr. Santiago went on to champion the cause of cancer patients in Puerto Rico and the Latino communities in the United States. Her leadership capabilities shone brightly as she helmed five fully funded projects, impacting over 75,000 participants across Puerto Rico.

Dr. Santiago’s professional accolades are numerous. As an educator, she left an indelible mark, mentoring hundreds of students across multiple institutions. A passionate entrepreneur, she launched an innovative skincare line specifically tailored for cancer patients, fulfilling an unmet need in the market. Her foray into the business sector also saw her as the CEO and president of Oncology Quality Services, LLC.

Dr. Santiago emerged as a leading voice in health communication, amassing over 250 appearances across written press, digital media, and television. Moreover, her advocacy extended on an international scale when she was chosen as the national spokesperson for cancer education by Telemundo United States.
